The UK will become the first market in Europe to launch Starbucks’ two-year-old nitro cold-brew concept.
The cold-brew coffees, which are infused with nitrogen, will be available on tap at the Starbucks Reserve Bar in London, with up to 100 further stores rolling out the nitro cold-brew concept this summer ahead of a potential roll-out to European markets later.
The nitrogenisation, Starbucks said, helps to unlock the smoothness and natural sweetness of the company’s cold-brew coffee recipe.
The nitrogen coffee cascades from the tap for optimal visual appeal, and the cold-brew coffee is served cold and unsweetened without ice to highlight the flavour that the cold-brewing process brings out in the coffee.
Maria Sebastian, senior vice-president of brand for Starbucks EMEA, said: “This is an entirely different kind of cold coffee experience – one we think will revolutionise the category and the way our customers think about our cold coffee menu.
“London is one of the most competitive coffee markets so we’re delighted to bring this to our customers here first, with plans to bring it to more stores around the country this summer. We have an exciting year planned, bringing our expertise in hot coffee to cold, and demonstrating our investments in coffee-forward product innovations combined with the passion of our skilled baristas.”
In January, Starbucks reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $5.7 billion and like-for-like sales growth of 3% globally.
