General Mills has announced a host of new products for 2016 – and there’s a particular focus on healthy grains and characters on pack.
The main story is one of grains: the company has incorporated 14g of whole grains in its honey and peanut butter, and cinnamon and almond butter, Nature Valley biscuits; Yoplait Plentí has unveiled plans to mix oatmeal with Greek yogurt, packing 11g of protein and 16g of whole grains in every cup; and its Cascadian Farms brand has released four new varieties of granola mix and two new varieties of oatmeal squares.
There is also new cereals and nut crunch bars from Nature Valley, Greek yogurt muesli pots from Liberté, and several innovations in yogurt.
General Mills has teamed up with Warner Brothers to develop two new superhero-themed breakfast cereals, featuring either Batman-shaped chocolate strawberry pieces or crunchy caramel pieces in the shape of Superman’s shield.
It will also release new cinnamon and chocolate chip oat crisps branded with characters from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Frozen film franchises. Each serving of the oat crisps offers 14g of whole grains and 8g of sugar or less.
There is also two new flavours of Annie’s Bunny Grahams, and its Yoplait brand will bring out new yogurt packs featuring characters from two of the coming year’s most highly anticipated movies: Dory and Nemo from the Finding Nemo follow-on Finding Dory, as well as Marvel’s Captain America and Iron Man.
Alan Cunningham, General Mills’ senior marketing manager of cereal innovation, said: “Superman and Batman continue to appeal to the generations of fans that have enjoyed them for decades, as well as new superhero fans experiencing them for the first time.
“We spent extensive time and effort to develop the flavours and look of these cereals, and their packaging, so that they will match the incredible quality of the characters they feature.”
General Mills’ new sweet options include Häagen-Dazs almond panna cotta-flavoured ice cream, which will be made available in markets across Asia, Africa and the Middle East; two savoury flavours of Yoki ready-to-eat popcorn, bacon and cheddar; plus three varieties of a line of Betty Crocker microwaveable cake cups.
And the company has announced the launch of three new Old El Paso Restaurante salsas; three flavours of Parampara Indian dinner kits; plus new mozzarella and garlic, and spicy buffalo, cheesy pull-aparts from Pillsbury.
