Svalbarði has launched a new limited-edition polar iceberg water, harvested from icebergs freshly calved off glaciers in the remote polar region of the Svalbard archipelago, more than 400 miles north of mainland Norway.
The pristine ice, locked up for millennia and said to be as fresh as snow, is captured, melted and bottled during its few brief months of life before it melts away into the Arctic seas, Svalbarði said.
The water is almost entirely mineral-free, with the pH of fresh snow. With an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel, Svalbarði has a unique terroir, perfect for pairing with fine foods and wines, the brand added.
Svalbarði founder Jamal Qureshi said: “Svalbarði began with a dream to explore the Arctic. When I visited Svalbard for the first time I discovered the ice was exceptionally clean, with a delightful taste. As a gift for my wife, I gathered a little water and brought it home to make a cup of her favourite herbal tea. This set in motion the chain of events which created Svalbarði. My dream to visit Svalbard has become a passion to share it. I know few will ever be able to visit, but with Svalbarði people can taste a piece of the ice at the top of the world.”
The brand officially launched last month and has since one the accolade of best tasting super-low minerality water at the International Fine Water Tasting Competition 2016, which was held over four days in Guangzhou, China.
A total of 70 waters from 25 different countries competed for medals, judged against their overall quality including appearance, aroma, taste, mouthfeel and aftertaste.
