The refurbishment plant will enable Tami 4 engineers to service parts that cannot be replaced at customers’ premises during the mandatory six-monthly maintenance of filters and UV lamps.
Tami 4 water coolers comprise an activated carbon filter to remove chlorine, limescale and rust from tap water, and an 11 Watt ultraviolet lamp to protect the water after dechlorination. Each machine also has a programmable central processing unit, heating element, stainless steel tank and compressor.
Wras-approved Tami 4 engineers will use the new facility to reprogramme the CPU, test chilling and heating units, and replace or recycle components following Weee guidelines. A gas extraction unit allows for Tami 4’s zero air gap water tanks and compressors to be safely emptied without contaminating the system.
“Our carbon rating company identified that we could further reduce our footprint if we stopped refurbishing Tami 4 water coolers overseas,” said Nick Heane, MD of Tana Water UK. “We’re the only UK water cooler manufacturer that services its own machines, so we have greater control over the whole product life cycle. Refurbishing at our UK headquarters saves shipping costs, materials and the environment.”
The announcement comes a year ahead of the Carbon Reduction Commitment, which comes into force on 1 April 2010, requiring large companies consuming at least six megawatt-hours per half hour to reduce their carbon emissions annually.
