Dairy brand The Collective has launched a honeyed plum and stem ginger limited-edition yogurt in tribute to co-founder Mike Hodgson, who died from a sudden cardiac arrest last year.
Inspired by one of Hodgson’s favourite fruits, which he always had for breakfast, the honeyed plum and stem ginger variant features The Collective’s signature thick and creamy yogurt with a double layer of British Victoria plum conserve, infused with Mexican orange blossom honey and warmed with a kick of crystallised stem ginger.
Available from Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Tesco, Ocado, Whole Foods Market, Booths and independent stores with a recommended retail price of £2 for a 450g pot, The Collective has pledged to raise a minimum of £15,000 for the Community Heartbeat Trust – with £0.05 from each pot sold going to the initiative – as part of a national campaign to install life-saving defibrillators in at least ten disused telephone boxes.
The brand is also hosting a 350-mile bike ride, which will include members of Hodgson’s family and The Collective employees.
Amelia Harvey, co-founder of The Collective with Hodgson, said: “The new honeyed plum and stem ginger limited edition is a very special one as it has been launched in memory of our co-founder Mike Hodgson, who tragically passed away last year after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest whilst cycling near his home in the Lake District.
“As co-founder of The Collective, Mike was a man of great vision and an inspiration to us all. He had an enormous sense of fun, loved the outdoors and big adventures and was adored by family, friends and work colleagues.
“Along with Mike’s family, we are collaborating with the UK’s leading community defibrillator charity, The Community Heartbeat Trust, to bring at least ten retired red telephone boxes back to life by placing life-saving defibrillators in them.
“Through this limited edition launch, we have the opportunity to tell Mike’s story and help people throughout the country. It includes British plum – one of Mike’s favourite fruits, so it is in honour of him, and we hope he would have been proud. We will raise funds through sales of this product and donations supporting a five-day, 350-mile bike ride that will commence at Mike’s family home in Keswick and end at our headquarters in London.”
