The show will become the International Cheese Awards, reflecting its role as the world’s premier showcase for the cheese industry. The 2009 awards will be held 28-29 July in Cheshire, and the event is open to the public on 29 July as well as to retailers and other trade buyers.
Chairman of the awards organising committee, Richard Paul, explained the rationale behind the rebranding: “We’re very proud of our roots as part of a major agricultural show in the heart of the Cheshire farming community. However, we’re now running the world’s biggest showcase for excellence in cheesemaking, and the new name and look will help to reinforce this.
“The awards have gone from strength to strength over the past few years. We now welcome competitors from 24 countries, and want to emphasise the international nature of cheesemaking. All the judges are drawn from the dairy industry, so winning a medal in the awards really is the pinnacle of success for any cheesemaker.”
