Joining as a commercial manager, George is no stranger to the food industry. Not only has he grown up under the guidance of his father, who has an unquestionable passion for the industry, George has gained valuable experience working as a produce buyer for Tesco at its head office in Cheshunt.
Having spent the early stages of his career at Tesco, learning from what can only be described as one of the world’s leaders in innovation and customer service, George is now ready to help propel Joseph Heler Cheese into exciting and unchartered territory.
The introduction of George to the company is another step in the natural progression of the business. Joseph Heler, the company’s founder and still an integral part of the business, has been responsible for developing some of the most influential award-winning products the cheese industry has seen, all born out of the artisan methods of cheesemaking that he learnt from his own grandmother.
MD Mike Heler has truly shone through as the soul of the company, retaining his father’s passion for the traditional, while at the same time pushing for new product development, innovation and sustainability.
George said: “Having grown up watching the highs, lows and euphoria moments of what is a time-honoured industry, I always knew that I wanted to enter into the family cheese business.
“Fully aware of my fortunate position, I had to ensure that I could bring as much as I possibly could to the table when I joined Joseph Heler Cheese. Not only safeguarding the company’s heritage, but also ensuring that the innovation and gutsy approach that my father has taken with the product and business’s direction as a whole, is maintained and moved forward in the best possible way.”
George is set to become an integral part of the future of Joseph Heler Cheese as he takes those artisan methods and products and moves them into the future, spotting what the customer wants next and delivering with the exceptional taste and quality that his family has become synonymous with.
“It is now my duty to combine these two fundamental factors and help to create a business that can not only develop exceptional products, but get them from farm to fork,” he said.
Joseph Heler Cheese truly is the one to watch, demonstrated by the recent launch of the UK’s first Reduced Salt Cheddar cheese, which launched into over 600 Tesco stores throughout the UK last month, with further groundbreaking products set to be unveiled later this year.
In addition to this, the company has also recently added a £750,000 investment in a revolutionary whey plant at their Cheshire site to their portfolio.
Combining tradition with innovation, the company is all set to continue leading the way in shaping the future of the British cheese industry.
