Working in collaboration with Ebac and its Classic Cooler model, the essential testing was carried out at the renowned Laboratorio Dr Oliver Rodés in Barcelona.
The laboratory allowed Pseudomonas Aeruginosa to develop to its full strength before Ben Steur from Hygienic Solutions travelled to Spain to carry out the actual sanitisation on three separate coolers. The Pseudomonas had to remain at zero for a period of two weeks to pass the Protocol three Challenge.
The results showed that CoolerClean products (CoolerClean Spray & CoolerClean Rinse and the CoolerClean Sanitisation Method) removed pseudomonas aeruginosa and biofilm with a five minute contact time.
Managing director, Marcel Steur commented: “We consider this a major breakthrough for our business. It represents independent confirmation of the effectiveness of our products against biofilm and pathogens such as pseudomonas aeruginosa.
“Laboratorio Dr Oliver Rodés is arguably the most reputable water lab in the business and we jumped at the chance of carrying out the Protocol three test with Ebac.
“Not only did we pass this Protocol three Challenge test, we did so on the basis of a five minute contact time. This means that the CoolerClean method is a commercially viable method, which saves time on each sanitisation service.”
So, ten year’s after launching the company, will this help win new clients? “We are now taking every opportunity to explain to European water cooler companies what the test involves. Once they understand Protocol three, people start listening more attentively, since they want to work with certified and tried-and-tested products.”
As CoolerClean is effective against pseudomonas aeruginosa, Hygienic Solutions can promote the use of CoolerClean Spray on taps with every bottle change or at specific intervals, and thus eliminate the risk of any contamination.
The CoolerClean method works on all water coolers, both bottled and point-of-use. The full range is distributed exclusively in the UK and Ireland via water cooler supply company Kleena Coola.
Managing director of Kleena Coola, Ian Devine, commented: “This endorsement really does underline the quality of the products, and also the fact that a cooler can be cleaned and sanitised in five minutes. This makes it very viable for water cooler companies when looking to maximise time and profitability of cooler sanitisation.”
In the short time since passing the Protocol three test, Hygienic Solutions has already noticed an increase in orders and has won new clients. “We are finding it is specifically the larger cooler companies that use certified products and solutions. Our Protocol three result will certainly help convince these companies,” Marcel revealed.
“Furthermore, in 2007, we were the first product of its kind to be certified under NSF/ANSI Standard sixty, which has a worldwide significance for us. At the 2008 WQA trade fair in Chicago, we noticed that the NSF Standard certification and Gold Seal has a great impact on the US market.
“We are convinced that European water cooler companies will also attach value to this NSF standard. Combined with the Protocol three Challenge test, we feel that we have a line of sanitisation products that are effective, safe and save time in the field.”
