Birch water brand Sibberi is set to become the first company to introduce a bottled bamboo water, having expanded into maple water earlier in the year.
The British tree water producer claimed that bamboo water is “just as hydrating as coconut water, but with zero sugar”. Launching exclusively through Whole Foods Market, it will be packaged in 100ml bottles with just 5 calories in each bottle.
Bamboo water is the third line in Sibberi’s tree water range and will be launched exclusively at Whole Foods Market. They are each priced at £1.99.
As Britain’s appetite for alternative waters grows, Sibberi has seen the opportunity to grow with it.
“We were first to introduce birch water in the UK in 2015 and the category really picked up, proving Brits really do have a need for alternative waters,” said Sibberi co-founder Clara Vaisse. “Birch water is our first love but on our journey to launch Sibberi, we discovered other tree waters that are also naturally good for you and very low in sugars. We could not be more excited to introduce Bamboo water in May.”
Leveraging its expertise of tapping trees, Sibberi has already begun to harvest bamboo to extract the bamboo water. As bamboo water is botanically closer to a grass than a tree, it can’t be tapped like maple or birch water; instead, to collect the water, Sibberi ‘presses’ it out of the bamboo.
Bamboo is the highest natural source of silica and good for skin, hair and nail health, Sibberi claimed. Silica is naturally present in the body, however it fades as we age, making bamboo water a simple and natural anti-ageing solution, it added.
Key to the Sibberi brand is to provide water directly from the forest that tastes exactly as it would if you had foraged it yourself, which is why all of the waters are completely unadulterated.
“As a brand we want to provide water made by trees, unaltered, with absolutely no added flavours or sugar,” Vaisse continued. “We did consider adding juices to our waters to add to the range and to make it more accessible to people inclined to sweet things, however we realised this would defeat the purpose of being completely natural and would add unnecessary calories. We decided to keep it simple and leave the waters just as nature intended.”
