Tyson Foods’s Innovation Lab has created a new brand called ¡Yappah! which aims to reduce food waste by utilising upcycled vegetables and grains to create new products.
¡Yappah! was developed by the Tyson Innovation Lab over a six month period, and will make its debut via Indiegogo on 31 May.
A range of Protein Crisps will initially be released by the ¡Yappah! brand, and four flavours will be available.
Both chicken carrot and chicken celery are made from upcycled vegetable puree, while the chicken IPA white cheddar and shandy beer flavoured Chicken flavours are made from spent grain from the brewing process, which will be provided by Molson Coors.
Rizal Hamdallah, head of Tyson Innovation Lab said: “The ¡Yappah! brand mission is unique, important and far-reaching.
“The brand was created to inspire people and partners to rethink their relationship to food and how it impacts society.
“Through this launch, we intend to address global food challenges such as food waste.
“We could not have developed the Protein Crisps without the enthusiastic collaboration of partners like Molson Coors.
“We will continue to seek out other great partners, large and small, who have resources and goals that complement our own.”
David Durkee, senior director of R&D and Innovation for Molson Coors added: “This collaboration is consistent with our sustainable brewing priorities to address waste.
“There is great potential to upcycle our spent grains into amazing products and this is a key area of development for our innovation team.”
