Single Estate Spirits, the UK start-up founded by three bartenders in May 2017, has secured a European distribution deal with Netherlands-based Mas Wine & Spirits.
The partnership will see Single Estate carry out a series of launch events for its gin in Barcelona, Amsterdam, Rome, Stockholm and Athens.
Single Estate Spirits last year released Jindea, a gin created from single estate Darjeeling tea from India and made using juniper, lemon, grapefruit, coriander, ginger, fennel, cardamom and cinnamon.
The distribution announcement comes at the same time as the firm’s 2017 vintage bottling is released to the UK market. The 2017 Jindea Gin features a single estate first flush tea from Okayti Tea Estate in Darjeeling.
The new beverage features updated labelling, with more prom prominent gold foil and a new paper type.
Single Estate Spirits’ 2016 release of Jindea was from Goomtee Tea Estate, also in Darjeeling.
Matthew Dakers, Jindea brand director, said: “When we first found the 2016 first flush Darjeeling from Goomtee Tea Estate, we didn’t realise how unique each harvest would be. Now, as we launch the 2017 harvest from the organic Okayti tea plantation, the subtle differences in flavour has given the brand a whole new dimension.”
He added: “The tea is like grape varieties – the varying factors involved in the production can result in differences from year to year. We begin our search each year with our master tea sommelier Ajit Madan who selects the best vintage for our gin.”
