FoodBev’s Alex Clere spoke with Fonterra NZMP marketing director Gillian Munnik about the strength of New Zealand dairy, why the country is such a good environment for raising dairy cows, and how important it is to maintain a sense of quality and trust in the dairy category.
With many of Fonterra’s domestic factories at close to full capacity, Munnik also explains what opportunities there are for expanding the company’s production capacity overseas.
FoodBev met with a number of Fonterra farmers, plant workers and marketers as part of a four-day visit, which took in several of the dairy company’s largest factories, a typical grass-fed dairy farm and the company’s flagship research and development centre in Palmerston North on the country’s North Island.
NZMP is Fonterra’s ingredients division, supplying products like whole milk powder and shredded cheese for use in markets around the world.
Recorded and produced by Alex Clere and Martin White.
