After a busy first day at Vitafoods, it’s good to have some time to reflect on the interesting innovations I’ve seen.
While visiting the Tasting Bar, many of the functional drinks contained health boosting ingredients and aided weight loss.
Although the health drinks trend is by no means a new trend, it was interesting to see how many companies are expanding their ranges to accommodate this growing market and working hard to bring out new flavours and interesting products.
One of the products that really stood out for me today was the Vitavin Corovin Hot Chocolate for healthy heart! Claiming to be low calorie, the product contains plant sterols, cocoa flavonoids and monokolin K to maintain healthy blood cholesterol levels. It’s interesting to see companies extending their ranges so that something normally thought of as a “treat” can now be looked on as a health boosting functional beverage. It actually did live up to its claims and was quite tasty. A natural cocoa flavour, perfect if you prefer dark chocolate like me.
Another product that stood out for me was Go Green’s functional tea with added biotin (vitamin H) and vitamin B6. The drink, called “Go Green Less Weight with Biotin” is marketed as one which can help reduce weight loss thanks to the addition of biotin, which has shown to have an effect on metabolic levels. Although biotin’s effect on weight loss is sometimes questioned, it’s more important to focus on the fact that companies are seeing space to innovate in the day to day drinks market, i.e. tea. It is also interesting to note how Go Green focus on the vitamins and active ingredients in the branding of the product. The consumer is now more interested in knowing the active ingredient in their products and perhaps it adds greater authenticity.
Looking forward to exploring more today!
