European wine exporter Wolfberger and France-based software firm Ortems have collaborated in the implementation of a new planning system.
Ortems’ Master Production Schedule will assist the Wolfberger Group’s “medium-term planning processes”. Wolfberger hopes that the new software will help it to increase both productivity and responsiveness, and cites Ortem’s ease of use, expertise in the wines and spirits business and professional standards as motivating factors behind the contraction.
Matthieu Greffe, Wolfberger’s industrial director, said: “Our inventories represent significant tied up capital (approximately two thirds of our sales). We need to manage our supply chain to optimize our finished goods inventory… and to plan the packaging process, which must be highly responsive in order to manage the different sizes of work orders, which can vary from 96 to 13,000 bottles. “Choosing a planning solution like Ortems gives us a stake in the future by being more responsive and qualitative in the face of international developments in our premium market and the size of orders (smaller volumes but increasingly frequent).”
Wolfberger produces more than 14 million bottles every year, almost a quarter of which is for the export market. “For the past five years,” it says, “[it] has seen its revenues and volume of orders increase steadily with significant growth in export markets.”
