British cheesemaker Wyke Farms has agreed a new distribution partnership with Netherlands-headquartered Westland Cheese (Westland Kaasspecialiteiten B.V.).
Westland Cheese specialises in cheese distribution in the Dutch and German markets, and is responsible for the distribution of the Old Amsterdam, Maaslander and Trenta cheese brands.
The company will now distribute Wyke Farms cheese products such as its cheddar cheese varieties as a result of this new partnership.
Wyke Farms claims that the partnership was developed following a market research programme which identified the Netherlands and Germany as key growth markets for cheese. Westland Cheese has 80 years of distribution experience in these markets, and Wyke Farms pursued a partnership as a result of this.
Last year, Wyke Farms announced that it was doubling the production capacity of its Bruton dairy facility in Somerset to increase the production of cheddar cheese for export, as part of its five-year growth strategy.
Rich Clothier, managing director at Wyke Farms, said: “Quality produce from Great Britain is being very well received in European markets.
“The time is right for us to increase our offering into these regions and have chosen the best partner to help us do this.”
Henny Westland, managing director at Westland Cheese, added: “We are delighted to develop a strategic partnership with a family business that holds strong and similar values to our own.
“At an unprecedented time of change, these values, quality of products and way of doing business have a clear competitive advantage and point of difference to consumers in the market”
