  • Kerry opens new Cheestrings facility in Ireland

    Kerry Dairy Ireland, part of Kerry Group, has opened a new Cheestrings facility in Charleville, County Cork, Ireland. Supported by Enterprise Ireland and the government’s Capital Investment Scheme for Agriculture Products, the plant boosts production capacity by 50% and creates 60 local jobs. Since its creation nearly 30 years ago, Cheestrings has become a staple in UK and Ireland lunchboxes, with 17 Cheestrings consumed every second, according to the company. The new Charleville facility will increase capacity and enhance processing capabilities and efficiencies. Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment of Ireland, Peter Burke, said: “This strategic investment into this world-class facility was partly financed by the government’s Capital Investment Scheme for the Agri-Food processing sector. It is also supported under the EU Brexit Adjustment Reserve. This support ensures Kerry Dairy Ireland has the world-leading processing capabilities needed to continue to grow the brand globally while directly supporting the local economy here in Charleville through the creation of jobs.” Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of Ireland, Charlie McConalogue, commented: “The government established the capital investment scheme in recognition of the challenges faced by the sector and particularly its unique exposure to the impact of Brexit. The scheme represents this government’s strong commitment to supporting investments like this Cheestrings manufacturing operation that will help underpin the agri-food sector’s sustainable development in the future." "Investment in new market development helps to bring benefits to all those along the supply chain, particularly farmers, our primary producers, who are key contributors to our €16 billion export sector, of which our dairy exports account for over €6 billion.” Edmond Scanlon, CEO of Kerry Group, stated: “Cheestrings has been a fantastic success story over the past 30 years and a great example of an innovative healthy snack product for everyday consumption.   • McCain Foods expands ‘Innovation Hub’ farm network

    McCain Foods is expanding its network of ‘Innovation Hub’ farms across North America, partnering with four additional farms across three growing regions. The company’s Innovation Hub concept was developed as a local, regionally accessible extension of its Farms of the Future project in New Brunswick, Canada. Farms of the Future aims to enable a better understanding of regenerative agriculture practices and their impact, costs and benefits. McCain is working with farming partners to reimagine how to grow a potato that is better for both the farm and the planet. At its Innovation Hubs, trials and learnings are applied at a commercial scale to address environmental challenges that are unique to each local region. This year, new Innovation Hub farms will be established on potato farms in Alberta, Wisconsin and Maine, alongside an onion farm in Idaho. The new farms will join established research hubs in Idaho, Washington and Manitoba. Each Innovation Hub farm will address different agriculture issues and challenges, such as soil erosion, water insecurity, nutrient management and pesticide toxicity. Collectively, they aim to showcase best practices and applications of regenerative agriculture practices, like cover cropping, crop diversity, irrigation innovations, advanced machinery and nature-based solutions. Dan Metheringham, North America vice president of agriculture and sustainability at McCain Foods, said: “Farmers are conducting commercial-scale trials so we can learn fast – and fail fast – with new practices and new varieties, then share that knowledge with local growers”. He added: “The early signs are positive: a significant percentage of growers who visit our Innovation Hubs express their intent to implement new practices on their own farms”. The expansion supports progress towards McCain’s commitment to implement regenerative agriculture practices across 100% of its global potato acreage by the end of 2030. #McCain #US

  • Mark Anthony Brands launches new RTD vodka lemonade in UK

    Mark Anthony Brands UK has introduced a new brand of canned vodka lemonade, called Lemada, made with natural ingredients, which is poised "to shake up the RTD category". Lemada, available in Tangy Lemon and Juicy Raspberry, is made with real lemon juice, 100% natural flavours and no artificial sweeteners. The 250ml can at 4% ABV combines triple-distilled vodka and fizzy lemon for a refreshing drink. Richard Ingram, Europe MD at Mark Anthony Brands UK, said: "We’ve been lemon obsessed for the past year dreaming up a Lemada world. So we are thrilled to introduce Lemada to the UK and kick-start customers’ summer with a truly unique, premium and refreshing vodka lemonade option.
