4th Global Dairy Congress is 'packed with value'

Zenith International's 4th Global Dairy Congress has certainly delivered on its theme 'Packed with value'.

Salzburg was the venue for this important annual dairy event, which began with a plant tour to Alpenmilch's impressive production facility.

The two-day conference, moderated by Zenith International chairman Richard Hall, was held at the Salzburg Congress Centre and began with a welcome and Austrian market profile from Alpenmilch Salzburg general manager Christian Leeb.

A Central European market in perspective was then offered by Ramin Khabirpour, general manager for Fresh Dairy Products at Danone GmbH, Germany.

Other speakers on the first day included Kevin Bellamy from the Global Dairy Platform, Richard Taylor of Principal Congress Sponsor Elopak, Richard Veit of Interbrand, Kelvin Wickham of Fonterra Global Trade and IDF president Richard Doyle who gave the keynote address 'International collaboration in meeting environmental challenges'.

The first day ended with a look at world leading markets and featured three sessions: Russia: an insider's perspective by Pavel Isaev, Corporate Communications Director of Unimilk; Middle East: emerging dairy region by Farid Jahanbakhsh, Senior Market Study Expert for Iran Dairy Industries Company (IDIC); and India: fulfilling growth potential by Raghavendran Badrinath, Director of Vincent & Co

In the evening, delegate travelled to the Knight’s Hall, Residenz Palace, Salzburg, for the IDF Dairy Innovation Awards Gala Dinner, sponsored by Tate & Lyle and Sidel.

The second day took the theme 'Growth through innovation and marketing'. Speakers included Dairy Innovation editor Geoff Platt, Arun Prabhu, head of future creations at Arla Foods UK, Geoff Murphy, CEO of Old Home Foods, Kalle Leporanta, export manager for innovative technologies for Valio, Espen Thomassen, sales director – Omega-3 for Tine, and Dr Naomi Grant, technical and performance director of Maximuscle Ltd.

The congress concluded with two Zenith International market briefings: 'Global trends in fresh dairy products' by market intelligence director Esther Renfrew and 'Global trends in cheese' by senior market analyst Natasha Maiseyeva.
