Abakus Foods has launched a completely new and unique range of snacks using the jujube fruit.
Also called the red date, the healthy superfood snack is packed with phytonutrients and 20 times more vitamin C than citrus fruits.
A sweet and chewy snack, it is a source of antioxidants and contains just 58kcal per 20g serving.
It is also reported to boost the immune system, improve sleeping patterns, increase vitality and help contribute to an uplift in general mood. Its naturally sweet taste makes it an ideal healthy snack or ingredient – and it is free from gluten, dairy, sulphites and added sugar.
Each pouch has a recommended retail price of £1.79.
Maker Abakus Foods will also showcase its range of jujube crisps at IFE, the international food event being held at Excel London in March. The crisps are freeze-dried crunchy jujube slices with a light and crunchy texture. Freeze-drying is a gentle processing method that helps preserve the nutrients, and the resulting fruit-based product is billed as a ‘great snack for adults and children alike’.
And its hickory nuts, from the hickory tree, are oven baked for a crunchy texture and an indulgent buttery flavour often compared to butterscotch. Packed with vitamins and minerals, the nuts are a good source of manganese, which aids with tissue repair, bone strength and protecting cells from oxidative stress. Each 20g snack pack provides 92% of the daily recommended value of manganese.
