Designer Katerina Rafaj’s bold and bright garden explores the idea of gluttony, as part of the show’s Seven Deadly Sins theme. The garden was entered into the ‘Conceptual Garden’ category, where it won gold.
Katerina’s garden represents the sin of gluttony in an abstract, artistic and playful manner. The design highlights the huge amount of food being consumed and wasted every day in the UK, via the use of eye-catching oversized sculptures of tinned goods created from Weholite’s large-diameter pipes.
Speaking about her design, which was built by Purpleberry Gardens, Katerina said: “This project was an absolute pleasure to work on, and the end result was something that was clever, a little bit mischievous and yet thought-provoking.
“It put a smile on people’s faces and we hope it also actually made them consider what’s in the food we eat, thanks to the descriptions on the labels; for example ‘Classic Macaroni Cheese – beautiful, delicious, poisonous’ and ‘Delicious Tomato Soup – lethally good!’.”
Simon Thomas, managing director at Asset International, said: “To see our Weholite pipes reborn as giant tins of macaroni cheese, jelly beans and tomato soup was surreal, but we were excited to see Katerina’s ambitious designs come to life so effectively. Everyone as Asset was thrilled to see Katerina win gold for all of her hard work.”
