On display were ingredients ranging from organic natural flavours from Aromatech to new algae concepts from Roquette, nutrient premixes from Fortitech and numerous health solutions including vitamin K from DSM, as well as Omniceutical’s new, clear Sports Nutrition water apparently just listed by Tesco.
Analyst Laura Jones of Mintel gave a seminar on anti-ageing, showing products such as Nestle’s Resource Senior Activ, Fonterra’s Anlene Gold and Danone’s Densia yogurt) and there was further discussion on cognitive nutrition with omega-3 DHA (which has EFSA health claims approval).
Apparently, prebiotics, probiotics and fibre will play the strongest roles in the food and drink sector, with 78% of consumers aware of this term in market research.
The benefits of fruit and vegetables as quality of life extenders were highlighted by Professor Paul J Thornally of Warwick University, while Richard Frazier, director of food atp – The Food Advanced Training Partnership, spoke about how this relatively new initiative addresses the need for further education in the food and drink sector, as many people want to broaden their horizons when it comes to employment and update their knowledge of latest technologies.
