Colombian rum producer Dictador has entered a new partnership with a Hong Kong-based spirits distributor, which will allow it a foot in the door of the Chinese market.
Leung Yick – already the importer of a number of foreign liqueurs, spirits and whiskies – will have the exclusive right to sell Dictador’s portfolio of premium spirits in Hong Kong.
The Colombian distiller uses traditional methods to create ‘rich, full-bodied’ spirits that are distributed in over 80 markets globally. Its expansion into Hong Kong, propelled by increased consumer demand in the region, will allow it to plan ahead to a full rollout across China.
Leung Yick has been ‘carefully selected to contribute to this next wave of growth’, it said.
Dictador Europe vice-president of sales Marcin Lukasiewicz said: “Hong Kong is the gateway market to China, therefore we needed to ensure our products would be distributed by the right partner who shared our commitment to building long-term brand equity. Our award-winning rums are currently available in over 80 markets around the world and we observed demand for products like ours in Asia. Leung Yick is a great company and will help our brand succeed and reach its maximum potential.”
Leung Yick general manager Jenny So added: “We are excited and honoured to be named Dictador’s exclusive distributor in Hong Kong to help grow their luxury spirit offering. We will apply our unsurpassed sales and operational capabilities to support Dictador’s growth and development in the region through our already strong relationships.
“There are some great synergies between us and Dictador, and they have all the elements we look for when selecting brands for our portfolio, including a heritage and passion for their craft demonstrated by their high-quality rums. We are extremely pleased to bring Dictador on board.”
