Presenting the company with a Macmillan Corporate Challenge Award, the charity’s fundraising manager, Aileen Stewart, said: “There are a lot of hidden costs to cancer especially if the person with cancer can’t work because of their illness.
“With the funds raised by Greenvale AP we are able to help people with the cost of getting to hospital for vital treatment, with their heating bills and with everyday things like replacing washing machines. If you are fighting cancer you don’t want to have to worry about these sorts of things and Macmillan is here to help in all sorts of ways.”
Greenvale’s chief executive, Angus Armstrong, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Macmillan Cancer Support as our staff nominated charity for the past two years. They do invaluable work and we are proud to donate this money to such a worthwhile cause. I have been so impressed by the enthusiasm, imagination and hard work of all our staff, who have worked together to raise this magnificent amount of money!”
Greenvale AP staff organised a whole range of fundraising events to bring in a total of £30,000, which was then topped up by Greenvale AP to the total of £64,677.
Greenvale AP handles 600,000 tonnes of potatoes every year and supplies major retailers and food manufacturers.
