Nestlé is to inaugurate its new Nespresso production and distribution centre in Avenches, Switzerland, on 10 June 2009. The new 400,000m3 facility is expected to produce and distribute 4.8 billion Nespresso capsules a year.

The establishment of the centre will result in the creation of 340 full-time jobs by the end of this year.

“This is a further sign that the premium and luxury business is one of Nestlé’s strategic growth platforms, and shows the company’s commitment to Switzerland,” said Nestlé.

The Avenches site, which was originally scheduled to be opened in 2008, also includes a showcase area where coffee connoisseurs can tour the facility and learn more about the coffee-making process.

Nestlé said it has invested more than SFr150m in the new operation.
