British start-up Xeco Wines aims to shake up the sherry category and take it into the aperitif scene across the UK.
The brand’s first launch, called Xeco Fino, is made using Palomino grapes from Jerez in southern Spain and aged in American oak casks for at least four years.
Xeco has positioned itself as eye catching and modern and is working alongside renowned bartenders to develop a selection of quirky cocktails. The brand claims that the low alcohol and calorie credentials of sherry make it the perfect aperitif choice for summer sipping.
A spokesperson said: “XECO Fino is delicious served straight up and fridge-cold, or within any number of mouth-watering serves. From the simple Xeco Fino with fresh lemonade or a generous glug of tonic, up to more complex concoctions, Xeco is proving sherry to be one of the most versatile liquids out there.”
The wine is available in the UK through online retailer Master of Malt with a recommended retail price of between £15.99 and £16.99.
Xeco Wines will also launch an amontillado variant in the autumn and has other styles currently in development.
