The awards, which recognise the best in online publishing, judged the top 1,000 news websites according to Alexa before shortlisting entries from those websites deemed to be leading the way in delivering high-quality online journalism to a global audience.
The event attracted entries from some of the world’s leading websites, including Forbes, Fox News, The Guardian, The Sun, BBC, Sunday Times, Mail Online, Reuters and The Telegraph, to name a few, and was sponsored by the Press Association and judged by an international panel that included Andrew Jaspan, former editor of The Age, David Mill, former online editor of Mirror Group, Noel Young former group managing editor of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, Charles McGhee, former editor of The Herald, and Jim Chisholm, former director of the World Association of Newspapers.
But it wasn’t just the big companies that were recognised. FoodBev.com won Best Commercial Innovation for successfully delivering digital editions fused with interactive content and extending value for its readers.
