Canadian food distributor Gordon Food Service has been granted a CAD 8 million ($6.1 million) interest-free loan by the government of Quebec, which will help the company expand its Boucherville distribution centre.
Gordon Food Service provides food products and other services to foodservice such as restaurants and hotels clients throughout both Canada and the Eastern US.
The funding was authorised by the Quebec government’s ESSOR investment programme, and will allow Gordon Food Service to upgrade the cold storage facilities at the site and automate part of the distribution centre’s shipping process.
A further CAD 146,160 ($112,000) will be granted by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Solidarity to provide further training to the company’s workforce, and will create a further 35 jobs.
Nicole Ménard, MP for Laporte and chief government whip said: “Gordon Food Service has experienced strong growth in recent years.
“This expansion project was therefore necessary to adequately meet the demand of its customers.
“The growth of the company will also contribute to the strength of the Montérégie economy.”
Dominique Anglade, deputy prime minister and minister of the economy, science and innovation added: “Gordon Food Service plays a key role in the supply chain of Quebec’s hotel, restaurant and institutional networks and is committed to enhancing the supply of Quebec’s biofood companies.
“It is therefore with pride that our government is associated with the realization of its investment project. “
