Campbell was recognised in two different categories for aggressively managing and reducing green house gas (GHG) emissions and for establishing aggressive GHG reduction goals.
The awards were presented by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO), the Centre for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2EZ), and The Climate Registry (TCR).
In its 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, Campbell announced a series of 2020 Environmental Sustainability Destination Goals that detailed how the company planned to cut the environmental footprint of its product portfolio in half. These goals were intended to accelerate the progress made between 2006 and 2010, when the company reduced GHG from 4.78 to 4.38 tonnes CO2 per 1,000 adjusted cases produced.
Dave Stangis, Campbell’s vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, said: “Companies around the world are finding that minding a business’s environmental footprint is no longer merely an option, but an imperative and a best practice that boosts the bottom line.
“Since 2005, Campbell has invested in more energy efficient machinery and systems, and in smarter processes, using water heated for one process to pre-heat the next process, for example. We’ve made significant capital investments to improve efficiency that also meet our internal criteria for return on investment.”
