Carrefour has purchased the Bio c’ Bon banner for €60 million, in an effort to strengthen its position in the French organic food market.
The announcement has been made after the Paris Commercial Court accepted Carrefour’s offer to purchase the French organic chain, which operates over 100 stores.
With the acquisition, Carrefour aims to accelerate and develop its presence in the specialised distribution of organic products in urban centres. Bio c’ Bon will join Carrefour’s organic store division, along with So.bio and BioAzur which the company acquired in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Carrefour also plans to preserve more than 1,000 Bio c’ Bon employees, which it claims is almost the entirety of the current workforce.
The deal also comes as Carrefour is expanding its digital store offering with the purchases of Greenweez, Planeta Huerto and Sorgente Natura over the last 5 years.
The transaction is subject to review by the competition authority.
