Members of the BWCA attending the AGM held in Warwickshire on 24 September were told that the keynote address is to be given by Mr Campbell, the writer, communicator and strategist who is best known for his role as prime minister Tony Blair’s spokesman, press secretary and director of communications and strategy.
The announcement of the speaker for the 2015 event has been keenly anticipated by the industry following the rousing speech delivered at the 2014 BWCA conference by Lord Digby Jones.
Mr Campbell is active in politics in Britain and overseas and splits his time between writing, speaking, charitable fundraising, consultancy and campaigns. He has written ten books in the past seven years, including six volumes of diaries, three novels, and a personal memoir on depression and the pursuit of happiness. A former ‘Mind Champion of the Year’, he is an ambassador for the Time to Change campaign to raise awareness about mental illness and continues to advise the Labour Party as well as being a visiting Professor on media at the University of Cambridge. In 2005, Mr Campbell was invited by Sir Clive Woodward to work on communications for the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.
BWCA chairman, John Dundon, said: “We are thrilled and honoured to again have so renowned a public figure to address our industry”. Phillipa Atkinson-Clow, BWCA’s General Manager, added: “Each year our conference and trade show grow in popularity and stature. Our trade show in 2014 was the biggest and best yet however, we fully anticipate the 2015 to be something very special indeed.”
