Opening speaker Dr Vince Cable is constituent MP for Top Tea CEO Hom Paribag, and as minister for trade, innovation and skills, he expressed his backing of this new trade with the UK as, “Morally right and good for all concerned, so I am happy to bang the drum for development and trade”.
Hom Paribag, who represents the Nepalese community in the UK, was pleased to welcome Nepal’s ambassador Suresh Chalicse to the Cinnamon Club in Westminster’s Old Library, with a mission to make these delicate Nepalese teas available in the UK.
“Top Tea is produced in a perfect location for best climactic conditions in Nepal, where it borders the Darjeeling area,” he said, “and so we can produce tea of excellent flavour and quality. Importantly, with this Rain Harvest Project, we are helping the rural poor and through creating these economic ties, business and altruism can come together in a social enterprise with long-lasting employment opportunities.”
Top Tea is available as strong black tea, CTC (crush, tear and curl) and Green Tea as both tea bags and loose tea.
The company apparently has the capacity to provide 50% of the world’s tea products if you take into account that we drink 20 billion cups of tea a day on a global basis.
