Packaging equipment manufacturer KHS has developed a lightweight and cost effective bottle for the milk and mixed milk beverage sectors, by transferring its understanding of bottled water.
The 1l polyethylene terephthalate (PET) container protects the contents, lowers production costs and is 100% recyclable. It features a thread diameter of 32mm, weight of 20g, and staggered rib structure that enhances grip and convenience for the consumer.
The container can either be designed as a transparent bottle that is enveloped in a protective sleeve after filling, or as an opaque white bottle with a reliable light barrier of titanium oxide. And, by using 2g of PET less per bottle, a production rate of 50m bottles can save fillers up to €140m every year.
The new format provides “a perfect balance between economy, market acceptance and product quality,” the German firm claimed.
KHS head of technology Frank Haesendonckx said: “With this lightweight, cost-effective and consumer-friendly bottle we’re giving our customers a type of packaging which both protects their milk products and looks attractive on the shelf.”
