Ball Corporation has announced plans to build a two-line beverage can manufacturing plant in northeastern Mexico.
The location of the facility in Monterrey “complements Ball’s North American metal beverage packaging footprint,” the manufacturer said, and will start being productive in the first half of next year. The plant will serve growing demand for standard and speciality metal beer packaging, with the majority of capacity contracted under a long-term agreement.
Ball president of North American metal beverage packaging Daniel W Fisher said: “The demand for standard and speciality metal beer packaging continues to grow, and the Monterrey plant will allow us to expand our customer base and product portfolio. This returns-oriented growth project broadens our geographic reach into a new and growing market for Ball’s global metal beverage packaging business, which aligns with Ball’s ‘Drive for 10’ vision.”
The move will bring Ball closer to its competitors in the region; in February, we reported that Crown Holdings had revealed plans to build a beverage can production facility with a potential capacity of 2bn cans in Monterrey, as the emerging Mexican market continued to grow.
