Plastic packaging manufacturer Alpla has revealed plans to take over an Egyptian production site from plastics company Argo.
The Austrian-based company will assume control of the site in El Obour, around 30km northeast of Cairo, by the end of the year. The move, which follows on from the opening of Alpla’s first facility in Africa last year, will significantly strengthen Alpla’s position on the African continent. That facility – located in Johannesburg, South Africa – as well as the newly acquired plant in Egypt each have a workforce of around 50 employees.
Both parties have agreed not to disclose the plant’s purchase price.
“The acquisition of this branch is a second important step to further expand our presence in Africa,” said Alpla CEO Günther Lehner, in reference to the site that it opened in South Africa in 2014.
