French dairy group Lactalis has reached a deal to acquire Fromageries E. Graindorge, according to the president of the Normandy-based cheese maker.
The Livarot-based producer specialises in the four different types of cheese – livarot, pont-l’eveque, camembert and neufchâtel – all of which have Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.
Fromageries E. Graindorge is France’s leading producer of livarot and pont-l’eveque cheeses, and the country’s second largest producer of Normandy camembert.
The company’s president, Thierry Graindorge, told colleagues at a meeting last week that Lactalis had undertaken to take control of Fromageries E. Graindorge’s three production sites – all in Normandy. The group has also assumed responsibility for a workforce of around 250.
Financial details of the transaction have not been publicly disclosed, though Fromageries E. Graindorge turned over €50 million in its most recent financial year.
