The assessment, run by researchers in association with the University of Nottingham, scored a range of grocery products across a number of categories from laundry detergent to tea on a number of factors, including packaging and energy needs. It found that Volvic was the greenest soft drink and that the brand came 4th overall – way ahead of any other soft drinks.
The new ‘Go Green’ packaging on Volvic signals to consumers through explicit messaging on-pack the ongoing commitment to sustainable projects that help people and the environment. The new packaging also encourages consumers to recycle and clearly highlights that Volvic bottles are 100% recyclable and that the bottles are made with a proportion of recycled plastic.
Patrick Kalotis, marketing director at Danone Waters, said: “This is a fantastic result for Volvic. Formal recognition as the greenest soft drink on the market just goes to demonstrate the ongoing commitment to sustainability we have is proving successful. Sustainability is an important driver for consumers and retailers in their purchasing habits, and we’ve been taking it seriously at Danone Waters, investigating and implementing ways in which to reduce our carbon footprint and the weight of plastic in our bottles.”
