Lallemand Bio-Ingredients has introduced organic inactive yeast and yeast extracts Bio-Lyfe and Bio-Engevita Bio-Engevita to the market.
The company has researched and adapted its yeast production to meet the organic regulation in the EU (and its US equivalent).
“Since organic is becoming more and more a mainstream trend, there is a demand for a wider range of organic products – also processed products,” said business development manager Annemarie Halter. “We believe that our organic yeast and organic yeast extracts can be a helpful ingredient to create tasty, organic products.”
Yeast is regarded as an agricultural product (since 31 December 2013) and has to be taken into account in the recipe of organic products. The company’s products are made in accordance with the EU organic regulation (Regulation (EC) 834/2007).
Since 1 June 2012, an equivalence agreement between the EU and US is effective. This means that as long as the terms of the arrangement are met, organic products certified to the USDA organic or European Union organic standards may be sold, labelled and represented as organic in both regions.
