The scheme, established in 2001, works with dairy processors and a group of dedicated dairy farmers to secure the very highest quality milk for M&S customers while delivering a transparent and fair price back to the farmers.
Updated in 2010 through close consultation with the farmers, Milk Pledge Plus provides additional price security while also incentivising milk producers to have the highest levels of animal health and welfare.
Commenting on the anniversary, Steven McLean, agricultural manager at M&S, said: “We are delighted that this market-leading scheme has been running for 10 years, making a real difference to the returns our dairy farmer suppliers have received over that time.
“We are committed to ensuring that our dairy suppliers continue to get a fair price for their milk and our pricing model acknowledges both the retail price and the farmer’s cost of production to ensure that this happens. This is of course especially important at the moment, as costs such as fuel, feed and fertiliser are rising rapidly.”
Mark Robins, dairy farmer and chairman of the M&S supply pool, said: “We are pleased to be working with M&S on what continues to be the leading scheme in the industry. We have built a close working relationship over the last 10 years and look forward to developing this further in the future to ensure that M&S customers can enjoy milk safe in the knowledge that it is coming from farms with the highest standards that are being fairly rewarded for the milk they produce.”
