The website for the alcohol education charity received over four million unique visitors in 2012.
The Nursery Research and Planning evaluated drinkaware.co.uk to help the charity better understand who is visiting its website, why they are visiting and how it can better support them to change their drinking behaviour.
The findings highlight that four in five (79%) visitors surveyed agree drinkaware.co.uk is the ‘go to’ place for facts about alcohol and eight in 10 (79%) say they would recommend the site to someone else.
Nearly three quarters said they intended to track how much they were drinking (74%) and check the units in their drinks (73%) as a result of their visit.
The research found that nearly three quarters (71%) of those visiting the website said they drink at least once a week, with half drinking more than the unit guidelines. It also found that people who drink to increasing and higher risk levels are most likely to cut down their drinking as a result of visiting the Drinkaware website.
Three quarters of visitors are new to the site, with those returning spending more time and viewing more pages on the site.
Visitors were asked how often they drink, what advice they were looking for and how, if at all, the website could help them make and sustain changes to the way they drink. The majority said they came to Drinkaware’s website for personal reasons.
