The stunt follows a series of protest pranks at Piccadilly, Buckingham Palace and Downing Street in London, which culminated with the two characters being ‘arrested’ by police.
In an attempt to re-establish the rightful packet colours of Cheese & Onion crisps (green) and Salt & Vinegar crisps (blue), the brand was attempting to end years of confusion and frustration for UK consumers. But after ‘criticism’ of its protests, Golden Wonder has made a statement that it ‘feels the only proper course of action is to withdraw from the protests’.
In the statement read out by a solicitor outside court, Golden Wonder said: We apologise to those who have taken offence to our actions. We have taken a stand for something and at no point was the fundamental issue contested: that Cheese & Onion should be in green packets, and Salt & Vinegar in blue. If we allow colours to be changed willy-nilly, what next? Will there be drivers sitting in traffic jams behind green lights? Will there be? We need to review today’s verdict, but it is safe to say that Golden Wonder is appealing. In fact, Golden Wonder is VERY appealing.
