They’ve been replaced by an additive-free natural fruit extract with a low glycemic index (GI), which provides a slow, continuous release of energy instead of a short-term sugar rush.
The extract, an entirely natural sweetener, is unique in the UK juice market and has been added to the PomeGreat PurePlus range of juice drinks: pomegranate, plus the blueberry, cherry and beetroot blends.
Each variety will have an estimated GI index of 35-38, which is classified as low. As well as controlling energy levels, low GI foods are digested more slowly, leaving the body feeling fuller for longer.
PomeGreat’s chilled pomegranate juice drink already contains this natural fruit extract in place of refined sugar.
The reformulation is the latest upgrade to the PomeGreat range, following the introduction of a separate 100% natural wholefruit extract to all juice drinks last autumn.
Known as PurePlus, this extract is taken from the seeds, skin and pith of pomegranates, which are discarded as inedible by all other pomegranate juice makers, but which contain 75% of the fruit’s beneficial anti-oxidants.
