Globally, Cargill’s total donation to United Way topped $13.8m for 2011, and more than $61.1m in total worldwide giving. The company’s goal is to re-invest 2% of per-tax earnings in communities where it has a presence.
In Wichita, Cargill also made a $1m commitment over five years to the Greater Wichita YMCA to help build a downtown Community and Nutritional Coaching Centre, with a $600,000 check presented to the organisation last summer.
Cargill will present $100,000 checks to the YMCA each spring from 2012 to 2015. Additionally, local Cargill Cares Councils support charitable and civic organisations that emphasize nutrition and health, education and environmental stewardship.
In Wichita, the Cargill Cares Council distributed more than $900,000 among scores of community organisations in 2011, with funds coming from the company’s Wichita-based businesses and corporate matches.
