A “gloriously English” vodka from the maker of Chilgrove gin will be the first in the UK to be distilled from grapes when it launches next month.
The 40% ABV Chilgrove vodka is made using natural mineral water that has filtered through the chalky South Downs, and combined with a neutral spirit distilled from grapes. The small-batch vodka is set for release in 70cl bottles, and a limited production run of 3,500 individually numbered bottles will be produced as part of the initial batch.
The alcoholic beverage is described as “clean and soft on the nose with just a hint of fruit”, while it is smooth, soft and slightly earthy on the palate. The first of its kind in the UK, the vodka complements Chilgrove’s existing grape-distilled gin, which was the first in the British market to be made from grapes rather than cereal.
Chilgrove Spirits’ Christopher Beaumont-Hutchings said: “The success of our first product, Chilgrove gin, has led to this early launch of our second ‘gloriously English’ Chilgrove spirit, Chilgrove vodka.
“Trade experts and discerning consumers have been fascinated by its production using grape-distilled alcohol, and appreciate how this improves the resulting spirit.
“The benefits of using the grape base in Chilgrove vodka can be enjoyed in a simple vodka and tonic mix, and in the coming months we will be perfecting our ‘gloriously English’ signature cocktails and working closely with bars and pubs to trial their own.”
