The plan, known as ‘CocoaAction’, will help to coordinate and align the sustainability efforts of the world’s largest suppliers and buyers of cocoa.
12 major multinational companies are backing the initiative so far. It complements the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, which seeks to improve the lives of cocoa farmers and the quality of their crops.
“CocoaAction will assist a transformation across the cocoa sector, and so will help our Nestlé Cocoa Plan to have greater impact on the farmers and their families in our supply chain,” said Sandra Martinez, head of Nestlé’s confectionery business.
CocoaAction will also be launched in Ghana on Thursday 22 May 2014.
