Ahold Delhaize-owned Peapod has partnered with Campbell’s, Kraft Heinz and Barilla for a new range of six meal kits as it aims to combine convenience with online grocery delivery.
Each kit contains pre-measured, pre-cut and pre-washed fresh ingredients, for a home-cooked meal with less preparation time.
The six kits are: miso Sriracha salmon with noodles by Campbell’s, harvest chicken alfredo baked ziti by Kraft Heinz, Barilla ready pasta gemelli with chicken and broccoli, steak chimichurri by Peapod, mustard glazed pork tenderloin with baby carrots and sweet potatoes by Peapod, and penne basil chicken with spinach and artichoke hearts by Peapod.
Each kit can be added to a customer’s Peapod shopping cart along with all other groceries with no subscription or commitment.
Peapod said the meal kits range from two to six servings and that it uses “significantly less packaging compared to other meal kits providers, eliminating ice packs or other insulation because of its delivery model”.
Spencer Baird, senior vice president of merchandising at Peapod, said: “We know that our customers enjoy a home-cooked meal but also value shortcuts to help simplify the cooking process. In fact, according to a recent survey we conducted, ready-to-serve and cook mixes are the most valued shortcut among home cooks with nearly one third of adults planning to purchase a meal kit in 2018. By shopping on Peapod, you can complete your weekly grocery shop with all of the essentials and add in a meal kit for a busy weekday night.
“As the meal kit space continues to evolve, we see ours as a model that will win big with consumers, delivering not just one meal, but all their grocery needs at once. Expanding our partnerships with trusted CPG brands such as Campbell’s, Kraft Heinz and Barilla is another proof point as we’re working together to deliver the variety and convenience our shoppers value.”
