Vion Food Group is to expand its presence in Bavaria with the purchase of meat and sausage specialist Otto Nocker as well as six meat markets.
Previously Otto Nocker was part of the insolvent Lutz Fleischwaren group of companies, and its acquisition is seen as a perfect fit for Vion as it moves up in the value chain.
Vion, which turned over €4.7 billion last year, said it is will focus on strengthening the Nocker brand and it has ensured customers that previous business relationships will be fully maintained.
The deal will include seven Nocker sites across Bavaria: in Germaringen, Ingolstadt, Traunstein, Günzburg, Kulmbach, Blaichach and Hammelburg.
Francis Kint, Vion CEO, said the acquisition underlines the company’s growth strategy which was announced last year: “The announced takeover is in line with our ambition for the best market positions and strong regional brands.”
Vion said that all 163 Nocker employees would be able to keep their jobs.
