Batch Ventures has announced a ‘six-figure’ investment in The Artful Baker, a specialist biscuit manufacturer based in Dorset, UK.
The Artful Baker is the first company to secure an investment from Batch Ventures, a 50:50 joint venture between UK bakery company Warburtons and Mission Ventures that launched last year.
The joint venture aims to support businesses producing innovative bakery-led products, and says that the investment in The Artful Baker is the first of several that it expects to make this year.
Founded in 2013, The Artful Baker brand offers a range of biscotti, which it sells nationally, while its sub-brand Great British Biscotti Co supplies independents, foodservice and export markets.
Paul Rostand, founder and CEO of The Artful Baker, said: “We’re excited to be partnered with Batch Ventures and see the support they provide as a great step forward on our journey of scaling the business, both here in the UK and via export trade. We already supply our biscotti to Italy and are seeing increased interest from buyers overseas.”
Batch Ventures aims to assist the growth of SMEs and start-ups through a combination of equity funding and hands-on support from entrepreneurs and industry professionals.
Warburtons chairman, Jonathan Warburton, said: “We were impressed with The Artful Baker’s quality of products and level of innovation and see a great opportunity to support their growth plans.
“Working with Mission Ventures and using Batch as a vehicle for small investments in a portfolio of promising brands gives us an opportunity to support early-stage entrepreneurs.”
