The sugar in the new drinks, which comprise ‘Pepsi Made With Real Sugar’, ‘Pepsi Vanilla Made With Real Sugar’ and ‘Pepsi Wild Cherry Made With Real Sugar’, will replace Pepsi’s current high fructose corn syrup sweetener.
With lobbyists for and against sugar and high fructose corn syrup, it’s difficult to conclusively pinpoint whether Pepsi’s new beverages will be any better, or worse, than its current offerings.
What is clear is that this development comes at a time when the $76bn carbonated soft drink industry is on the decline. As a result, major soft drink brands are creating new products and marketing strategies to try to spark consumer interest in the sector.
