Dan Doherty will join the jury of S.Pellegrino's first Young Chef competition.
Italian mineral water brand S.Pellegrino has launched a global competition to discover some of the world’s best young gastronomic talent.
The company has this week confirmed four of the region’s most renowned chefs as judges in its Young Chef 2015 competition’s UK and Ireland semi-finals, which will feed into the global final in Milan in June. They include Clare Smyth, chef patron at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay who was recently awarded an MBE after becoming one of only six people in the world to achieve and retain three Michelin stars.
The three other chefs announced are Daniel Doherty, executive chef at the highly acclaimed Duck & Waffle and a Tatler rising star of 2013; Atul Kochhar, who opened his first solo venture after serving as head chef at Tamarind in Mayfair; and Oliver Dunne, who, after working with chefs such as Gary Rhodes and Gordon Ramsey, has opened two critically acclaimed Dublin restaurants in the last two years.
Between them, the four chefs have five Michelin stars. The ten UK and Ireland semi-finalists will be judged on their signature dishes across five culinary criteria – skill, ingredients used, genius, beauty and message.
The competition demonstrates S.Pellegrino’s commitment to finding and encouraging the next food and drink-industry professionals.
Clare Smyth said: “This global S.Pellegrino initiative is one that has gained my full support. Gastronomic competitions like this allow the next generation of Michelin starred chefs to make their mark on the restaurant world and give them a chance to get noticed on a global platform. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perfect their skills and cook for some of the world’s best.”
