Nestlé has revealed plans to strengthen its ice cream business in China with a ¥100m ($16.11m) investment in two production facilities in the east of the country.
The Swiss company has opened a new production line in Tianjin – in the northeast of the country, 70 miles southeast of Beijing – to produce its 8Cubes brand of shareable bite-size snacks, comprised of individual ice cream cubes with a crunchy chocolate and sesame seed coating. The brand is currently only available inside China.
The investment will also benefit the Guangzhou site in southeastern China, which is approximately 75 miles northwest of Hong Kong.
Nestlé Greater China Region vice president Ouyang Kai said: “This investment will enhance our ability to meet increasing consumer demand for our products. It also underlines our confidence in the long-term dynamics of the Chinese market.”
Nestlé has two ice cream factories in China producing Nestlé branded products as well as the local brand 5Rams, which retails a range of flavoured ice cream cones and ice cream sticks.
