Detectamet has developed a new type of paper that can be detected on production lines, enhancing the safety of using paper in the manufacturing process.
The paper is made using a patented method that combines paper and film in a detectable and durable laminate. The detectability is achieved within the film that is sandwiched between the outer sheets of paper, which also gives it a resilience to tearing while retaining a degree of flexibility. The film holds patented selection of metallic particulates that can be detected and rejected by metal detection equipment already used in the food and beverage industry.
Detectamet said that the use of paper in food processing remained essential in many cases. Its new paper can be used for applications including printed instructions, recording of process activities and making special labels for products.
Detectamet managing director James Chrismas said: “I have been astonished at the performance of this material. It feels like a good quality uncoated paper and it prints so easily on standard printing equipment.
“We have already received enquiries from food producers and food retailers who have identified a unique use for detectable paper in their business and the safe production of their branded products.”
The 120gsm paper is available in A4 and USA letter formats and custom sheet sizes can be produced in smaller quantities, the British company added. It can be die-cut, perforated, embossed and glued like any standard paper.
